PICTORIAL REVIEW

GILMORE & BEYOND

The Economic Development Committee meeting recently provided a discourse on real estate activity in downtown.

Development in the historic core of Downtown Los Angeles has recently surged with the successful projects by Gilmore & Associates, thereby creating interest in the potential of a number of other existing buildings in the area. The speakers, Hal Bastian, Director of Leasing, Gilmore & Associates and Allan Walz, Principal, Prudential Construction & Management, provided both a tour of two Gilmore projects (the Hellman and Continental buildings) and a discussion of other developments nearby.

At a combined meeting with LAHq, CCA & LAACC, Roy Romer (c) new Superintendent of Los Angeles Unified School District shared his Insights on the future of LA Unified. He Is congratulated by President John Stern and Carol Shatz, President, CCA.

New Board Member Lynda Sybrandt from Deloitte & Touche is welcomed by sponsors Greg Schultz and John Stern.

WATER ISSUES

Will there be water for future development projects?
Despite living in a semi-arid area, Southern Californians have taken for granted the availability of high quality water at a low cost. However, recent court decisions (such as the one that overturned the approvals for the Newhall Ranch project) have challenged the assumption and forced developers to prove that water will that available to serve their projects.

Speakers Cliff Moriyama (r), Building Industry Association, Larry Rowe (1), Psomas (and former General Manager of Mojave Water Agency) spoke before the Economic Development Committee to discuss these issues.
Thanks go to Ed Casey (c), Marian Harvey and Allen Walz for presenting an excellent program.
