Summer 2001 , Vol. 20, Issue 3

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR

Our programs are timely and reflect what is going on in the current marketplace. Our best leaders attend our luncheons. Smaller meetings and breakfast forums provide up-to-date information to our members and more importantly, closer contact with governmental agencies, various officials and other civic personalities. A variety of topics kept our members informed, educated, updated and entertained.

DOWNTOWN
BOOSTERS

Three real estate industry professionals spoke to a capacity crowd recently concerning Los Angeles's downtown office market. Steve Smith (c.), partner, LA Center Studios, gave us an update on the entertainment industry and the future of the old Unocal property which will include renovation of the existing building and development of 900,000 square feet of related space.

Norman Mitchell (I.), senior vice president, Cushman Realty Corporation, gave a complete report on the numbers showing the leasing office market in various downtown buildings. Many old buildings are being converted to housing.
Chris Martin (r.), CEO, AC Martin, presented an overview of today's market showing dozens of new projects downtown including the Cathedral project and ongoing projects at Union Station.
The view was upbeat and we thank these three seasoned experts for their knowledgeable and thorough remarks.

SPOLIGHT ON THE MARINA

DREAM TEAM

Appreciation goes to Bob Mosier, Mary Miyata and Parker Jones for all their efforts this year. The team is planning two field trips for the 4th and 5th grade of Utah Street School. The first on April 24th is a visit to San Gabriel Mission; the students are working on a 12'map of all of the California Missions. A trip to Malibu Creek Park is planned for May 22nd.

WHERE-TO-HELP

Sharon Kaplan, Craig Lawson, and Bruce Ehrlich and their committees have been working closely with Charter Reform issues, specifically Neighborhood Councils. The Councils would like businesses in their communities to take positions on various issues. From time to time the problems that arise are reviewed and discussed with the goal of taking a stand and relaying our position through e-mail to our Board of Directors and then distributed to the membership or a letter is sent off if a position is taken.

WHERE-TO-LIVE

Touring the Old Bank District to view the various conversion projects proved to be a popular meeting. Ed Casey and Allen Walz, co-chairs Economic Development Committee, deserve accolades for this and all their programs throughout the year.

OUR CHAMPIONS

The Officers, the Board and the Committee Chairs will continue to focus on Greater Los Angeles and all facets of economic development promoting Los Angeles to businesses and headquarters companies. We thank all the Chairs and their busy committees for their dedicated work.
