CULTURAL AWARD
Norton Simon Museum

The Norton Simon Museum of Art is known around the world as one of the most remarkable collections ever assembled. The new $6.5 million renovation has just been completed and magnificently displays seven centuries of European art from the Renaissance to the 20th century, including works by such famous artists as Raphael, Botticelli, Rubens, Rembrandt, Goya and others.

KIDS CAPERS

At Universal Studios Mary Miyata is surrounded by students from Utah Street School.

The children of Utah Street School in Boyle Heights will experience two Field Trips this year organized by Board Member Mary Miyata. The first was a recent wonderful trip to Universal Studios. Our thanks to new Board Member, Carol Burle of Universal for arranging this day.
The "Universal Experience" included a Studio Tour on the tram with narration on the new expansion and master plan for the park.

The children saw the behind-the-scenes planning of creating a theme park. This tram ride included the King Kong and Earthquake Exhibits.
Then on to the Cinemagic, learning exactly how special effects are developed for films. Several of the children actually participated and had a hands-on experience. Let's not forget the dinosaurs at Jurassic Park. Totally terrific! That was followed by a fun lunch at the New City Walk.
The second field trip will take the children to Port of Los Angeles for a spectacular harbor cruise. The children have been studying how a city receives its goods and services and the value of trade. Also they may get lucky and spot a whale on migration. This trip is scheduled for May 25th, traveling from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles on the Blue Line, compliments of MTA, to Long Beach and then via bus to The Port of Los Angeles. The children will cat their lunch at beautiful Carrillo Beach.
