Although
I have been involved with the L.A. Headquarters Association for
almost twelve years, I am more excited than ever about the future
of our organization and what we can accomplish. We are a regional
organization comprised of over 140 member companies covering a wide
range of businesses, many of them in the real estate sector. After
reflecting upon our key attributes, our Executive Committee recently
refined our mission - Partnering with government and
the community to promote and create healthy economic growth, while
enhancing quality of life in Greater Los Angeles.
We
intend to carry out this mission in a number of ways. For example,
representatives of our Board of Directors will meet with our Ex
Officio members to determine how LAHQ can help key leaders in our
local government. Ex Officio members include: Andrew Adelman, General
Manager, LA Department of Building and Safety; Con Howe, Director
of Planning, City of LA Planning Department; Lydia Kennard, Executive
Director, LA World Airports; and Jonathan Kevles, Deputy Mayor,
Mayor's Office of Economic Development. This dialogue will continue
at the committee level, with our Economic Development and Government
Relations committees providing a focal point for enhancing this
partnership. Committee meetings ( only open to LAHq members) will
be smaller and more intimate, enabling LAHq members and key government
officials to openly discuss challenges facing our business and civic
communities.
Adding
to these exciting changes, I am also pleased to announce that this
year LAHq will be sponsoring the Tenth Street Elementary School
in conjunction with the STAPLES Center Foundation. This school has
been successfully educating our children for almost 75 years and
we look for ward to helping them continue this tradition. Many thanks
